The YACHT Blog

In our last general body meeting for the calendar year, we held elections to determine the new officers for 2022. This year was by far the most competitive year to run for a position, with some position have 3 or 4 people running for it. Thank you to all the brothers that have stepped up to become officers. The organization would not be able to run without the blood, sweat and tears that the officers put into it.

Congratulations to our new President, Max McManus. And now a few words from Max:

Dear YACHT Friends and Alumni,

If we have not already met, my name is Max McManus and I am a senior studying Building Construction here at Virginia Tech. I am very thankful to have been elected President of this fine [redacted] establishment. I've had the pleasure of being a member of our beloved organization for the past three years and have served as our Brand Management Chair for the last two.

As your President, I plan to continue building YACHT into the best local fraternity in Blacksburg. I am excited to work alongside an outstanding team of recently-elected officers who will help me grow our brotherhood stronger, invest in the markets, and make lifelong memories. We hope to welcome our alumni back in Blacksburg soon and will have details about an alumni weekend shortly into the new semester.

If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas for the upcoming year, please feel free to reach out to me personally. My phone number is 540-216-9677, and my email is mmax9@vt.edu.

Thanks guys,

Max

Yesterday on November 14th, the members of YACHT held our annual Turkey Fry. Brothers and guests alike bonded over some delicious turkey and tasty treats. We've held this annual event for a couple years now is one of my favorite events all year. For me it's a bittersweet moment as it means the semester is coming to a close but it's one way to get everyone together again. Huge shout out to all the brothers who chipped in and brought food to this potluck style meal but a special thanks goes out to Travis Hancock for taking special care of the turkeys. Below, take a moment to look at a couple pictures from the turkey fry, including some pilgrims that decided to visit.

Last week on Sunday, November 7th, YACHT partnered with Hope Loves Company and conducted a fundraiser Hike-A-Thon where all proceeds were donated to HLC. Brothers and new members alike went on a local 3.8 mile hike to the Cascade Falls, located here in the New River Valley. Our strong hikers found generous sponsors to pledge money to a great cause! Hope Loves Company has a strong mission: To provide emotional and educational support to children and young adults who have or had a loved one battling ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) or Lou Gehrig's disease. The brothers at YACHT are very proud to be supporting such a great non-profit that makes a difference in people's lives. Please take a moment to look at some photos that were taken during the fundraising hike!

As always, the quote of the day: "If Earth is the third world from the Sun, then isn't every country on Earth a third world country?"
